Sean Keeley Invites You To ‘Professional Blogging Boot Camp’

The stereotypical vision of a blogger is that of someone sitting in their mother’s basement spouting unadulterated nonsense and unsubstantiated rumor. While that stereotype remains in some circles, blogging has evolved into a critical form of communication, public discourse and information sharing. The rapidly-evolving world of professional blogging has opened up new possibilities for writers, reporters, critics, teachers and others. However, the gray areas that made blogging a Wild West are beginning to fade and rules, ethics and best practices are emerging. As a professional blogger, it is critical to understand what it takes to maintain a successful blog, especially as you attempt to monetize the site or build a brand around it.

Let Sean Keeley help you build your blog from just another voice in the crowd into a must-read blog that’s a daily stop for readers around the world.

The objective of the online Professional Blogging Boot Camp, Sunday June 26th, 3 p.m. – 8 p.m. EST, is to provide exposure to best practices and rules of the road for professional blogging, including strategies for building an audience, maintaining an interested community, how to maximize social media, how to avoid the pitfalls that exist and finding ways to monetize the content you create.

At the completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand how to create and maintain a professional blog that can be monetized.
  • Create valuable and engaging content on a consistent basis and share that content across multiple platforms, including search engines, social media, shared links and more.
  • Manage a blog on behalf of a business entity or corporation, knowing the ethical and legal boundaries that exist and how to reach your customers in an appealing way.
  • Manage the needs and demands of an online community, including content expectations, commenting, social media tools and personal interaction.
  • Understand threats involved in creating a public blog and how to manage issues that arise with identity awareness, copyright issues, plagiarism, trolls and more.
  • Identify emerging trends in professional blogging and know the best ways to implement them.

With over ten years of experience in professional blogging and online writing, Sean Keeley understands what it means to create, build and maintain an independent blog from scratch as well as manage and maintain a blog owned by another company. He now supports himself solely on income based on his blogs.

Sean founded the Syracuse sports blog Troy Nunes Is An Absolute Magician in 2006 and has since grown it into the No. 1 independent Syracuse blog, averaging more than 400K pageviews/month. The site has been featured on ESPN.com, Yahoo! Sports, NBC Sports, CBS Sports, Deadspin, Syracuse.com and many more sites.

Based on the success of his Syracuse blog, Sean published How To Grow An Orange: The Right Way To Brainwash Your Child Into Becoming A Syracuse Fan in 2010.

He took over as the editor and writer of FremontUniverse.com, a Next Door Media blog dedicated to covering the news of Seattle’s Fremont neighborhood, in 2010.

Sean is also an editor and writer for sports hub SBNation.com.

In 2011 Sean became an Adjunct Professor at Syracuse University, teaching “Blogging For Information Professionals” in Syracuse’s School of Information Studies. Many of the lessons and best practices covered in that class will also be taught in Professional Blogging Boot Camp.

Who Needs Professional Blogging Boot Camp?

  • Anyone who has ever thought about blogging but didn’t know where to begin.
  • Anyone who started a blog but became frustrated by their inability to find an audience.

What Do People Have To Say About Sean Keeley & His Blogs?

“I had high expectations taking a blogging course from Sean Keeley, and he exceeded all of them. Who better to teach us how it’s done than someone who has built a very successful blog from the ground up and who totally “gets it”? Sean understands the different learning styles of his students and realizes that the best way to learn blogging is to…well…just do it! His assignments were fun and engaging, and they worked perfectly to teach us how to be effective bloggers. You’d be silly not to take this course.” – Kim Brown, Alumni Programs Coordinator, SU Career Services

“Prior to taking Sean’s class, I was a hesitant blogger at best.  Sean gave me the tools I needed to become a confident blogger, which is of utmost importance.  The knowledge Sean has in his head on how blogging works, and how to make it work for you, is invaluable. He is a natural teacher who takes into account the varying degrees of prior experience his students possess, and is able to adapt his lessons accordingly. I wholeheartedly endorse Sean Keeley & his blogging course!” – Kelly Lux, Community Manager/Social Media Strategist, Syracuse University

“Sean Keeley is a true expert on professional blogging, with knowledge that comes from actually doing the hard work of building and managing an online community. On everything from content to strategy and monetization, you will not find a better teacher than Sean.” - Anthony Rotolo, Asst. Professor of Practice, Syracuse University iSchool

“If [Sean Keeley] were a Syracuse professor, he would be the one you thought was really cool that rode a motorcycle without a helmet and told you to tear up your textbook.  A must for any Syracuse fan that needs that bitter taste removed after any Syracuse loss.” - Brian Harrison, Orange44

“The best Syracuse blog.”Brent Axe, host of The Score 1260′s “On The Block”

“Any mention of Syracuse football must include Troy Nunes Is An Absolute Magician, which makes a very strong case for the Web’s best independent college football blog.” - Paul Myerberg, Pre-Snap Read

Here’s Sean discussing the origins of his Syracuse blog, ‘Troy Nunes Is An Absolute Magician,’ as well his advice to bloggers.
